ABOUT THE AREA
Location
Montana Margaret is 800 metres from the beachfront of the coastal village of Puerto Pollensa, and a short walk from the village square ant the beautiful seafront Pine Walk.
Puerto Pollensa is situated approximately 45 minutes north of Palma Mallorca airport, on the edge of a sheltered bay at the start of the Formentor Peninsula. Originally a fishing village, Puerto Pollensa is now a resort with sandy beaches, stunning mountain and sea views, and a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. It is very much a resort for couples and families: relaxed and easy-going, not for night-clubbers!
There are plenty of good restaurants and cafes along the pedestrian sea front - a great location to stroll to views of the bay, the Formentor Peninsula and the Tramuntana Mountains.
For the visitor interested in nature and the outdoors, there is plenty on offer: gentle coastal strolls, watersports including sailing, paddle-boarding (SUP), kaykaing and windsurfing; fantastic marked cycle routes; a network of quiet country lanes ideal for cycling; climbing and canyoning in the mountains and gorges of the Tramuntana and a great selection of walks around the local valleys, mountains and coast. The Tramuntana mountains have UNESCO status as an area of great physical and cultural significance. Pollensa Golf Course is 8km away. S’Albufuera Natural Park is a wetland nature reserve next to Puerto Pollensa, rich in bird and plantlife, and with easy walks. Nearby Pollensa old town, Alcudia old town and the quiet but spectacularly-located Cala San Vicente are all within 5km from Puerto Pollensa. These villages, and of course Palma itself, can all be reached easily using the regular local bus service.

Activities we recommend...
Swimming
In addition to the on-site pool, there is also a large (25m) indoor swimming pool that has a separate shallow children’s pool adjacent. It is fully accessible with good opening hours, and has a hoist for people with mobility problems. It is a 5 minute walk from Montana Margaret apartment. Swimming from the sandy beaches in the centre of the village is also safe, calm and warm for much of the year. See http://puertopollensa.org.uk/public-swimming-pool
SUP
Stand-up paddle surfing or kite surfing with Bellini SUP Centre, www.bellinisupcenter.com The Bellini Surf shop is just off the main village square in Puerto Pollensa (see their website for exact location), and you can book activities with them online.
Cycling
Cycling in the area is fantastic, and from February - May the area is buzzing with recreational and professional cyclists, the island having become a kind of ‘mecca’ for cycling. Good quality road bikes can be rented at www.procyclehire.com or at www.pollensacycling.com
